Magic Moments Challenge Update August

Hello lovely! I am already really digging the Magic Moments Challenge thus far. For one thing, it really allows me to have a voice and talk to you, my beloved reader, like a friend. It has also really given me the opportunity to sit back and think about what is happening in the “now”. That is just what I was hoping for.

Honestly, I wasn’t terribly sure it would work. I mean, I am a worrier. Anxiety has always been a part of my life, but in recent years it has been playing a HUGE roll. Over the past few months I have been trying to learn to react better, cope better, and be better overall. It’s an uphill battle but I am chugging along. All of that to say, living in the now seemed like a pretty ridiculous goal for me.  But I am starting something new with this blog and I’d like to think with my life. So, enter the challenge. It isn’t called a challenge for nothing.

Let me tell you how I have been approaching things. In my earlier post I mentioned that a key factor to living in the now is being able to let go of things that persist in your mind and to prioritize. For me, writing it down is the best way to do this. I have been using flow charts and mind mapping. Both allow me to get the stuff down on paper and make the organization a visual project. I will write more about how to do this in another post.

I have been focusing on each little moment and letting the next moment, good or bad, come as it comes. It’s not 100% but it is helping. More than once I have found myself in my head, asking me if this is going to help or hurt, if there is a silver lining here, if this will matter in 10 minutes, 10 hours, or 10 days. And I have been sifting out the yuck to find the sweet little gems at the bottom.

Suffice to say that I feel like things are going well. Today alone, I have had several lovely moments that will be excellent to reflect on when anxiety comes to call. And these moments are keeping me aware, at the top of my game, looking for magic at each turn. So, I thought I would give a quick recap of a few magic moments since the beginning of the month.

Wind energy for a brighter tomorrow
Kittens in unexpected places
Making my own butter
Turning fresh CSA veggies…
Into pork chops in a bourbon cream sauce
My boy, playing outside

I had other undocumented moments like the kitten and the cat snuggling in a box, friends gathering to celebrate, the sound the wind makes in the trees, late night movies with my kiddo, morning snuggles with my husband. This is turning out to be a great challenge!

Please, dear reader, tell me about a magic moment you’ve experienced recently. What are you doing to spend more time in the now? What are you doing for you?

So much love to you!

A magic moment I experienced recently was riding my bike to the fitness center in the early morning and observed a wonderful sun rise. I stopped on the side of the road and soaked it all in. It was a lovely moment.

I just LOVE those beautiful moments, finding release in the unexpected. I am so glad you stopped to take it in. And then went on to care for yourself at the gym. What a great magic moment!

I need to slow down and look. I’ve been so busy with work that I literally sleep, bathroom, computer. I get annoyed when phone rings or a kid asks me something or thinks they want to be fed. With them all older I don’t feed them I figure they can fix it and I’m not even eating. The time is going by and I’m missing. Today I will stop and look for a magical moment

Oh Karie, I totally understand what you are talking about. We get so wrapped up in all the things that need to get done! I am glad you recognize it and are committed to finding a magic moment. And tomorrow, do the same, and soon you will find that there are more and more each day.

Don’t forget to take time to care for yourself, momma! All the work and money in the world won’t buy us a healthy mind and happiness. ((Big hugs!))

Hey Pam, I know what you mean. That’s why I started this whole thing, I was really missing all the moments and letting anxiety dictate my life. I hope the tips here and the ones to come can help you notice the little things. <3

My boys still ask me a lie down with them every night. They love to chat and discuss their days. I just love to squeeze them tight.

      I LOVE that Pam!

We are big on what we call the “Barton Sandwich” which is the three of us crammed onto our big bed, pretending to sandwich meats and toppings. It is one of those things that I will remember until my last day!

I am a little jealous, Val! We rarely get thunder storms. They are definitely something I consider magical. And the beautiful memories made with your little one. <3
