Ladies Weekend Mill Creek Cabins Finger Lakes NY

A Ladies Weekend is in Your Best Interest ~ Here’s Why…

Every day, every week, every month… working, momming, spousing, sistering, daughtering, soloing, planning, cooking, cleaning, breathing. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? To tell you the truth, sometimes I want to run away. Throw my hands in the air, leave it all behind, and disappear into nowhere. *Poof*

We have all been there. Some more often than others. First let me tell you you are normal. No need to panic. In our society, we are taught that you must be at 100% at all times or you are failing, miserably. Nope. Nope. Nope! Get back societal expectations. This lady just can’t be bogged down by that nonsense anymore!

When I start to feel the overwhelm kicking in, I know it’s time to check out. I don’t need to abandon all and run away for all eternity though. I need to get on the phone and call my girls up and we need to go! Near or far, usually near. Fun shall be had!

Studies have proven two very important things:

  • Friends (the real ones) make us healthier and happier!
  • Vacationing and downtime make us healthier, happier, and more productive!

This, my friend, is what we call a win-win. So, grab your luggage, your gal pals, and your keys and let’s get the heck outta here!

A good friend and I make it a point to have a yearly ladies only trip. In fact, it’s an us only trip. Just her and I, and a bed and breakfast. We switch each year on choosing the B & B. And one year, she chose a stunner! Mill Creek Cabins in (you guessed it) the Finger Lakes area of New York. Admittedly, I was a little hesitant… this was LADIES weekend, not camp weekend. What was she thinking?! I should’ve known to trust my friend!

The cabin was fantastic with all of the amenities I could have possibly wanted. In fact, I rather overpacked. We had two nights, three days at our cabin and I packed like I was moving in. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this? They had a fully stocked kitchen, a modern bathroom, a gorgeous fireplace, a television, and a huge hot tub gazebo. Ahhh, I am home!

I was so impressed by the cabin. It was large and open and not an inch of space was wasted. The details were the first things I noticed.

We hauled in all of our gear… okay, I hauled in all of my gear and my bestie brought in like two things. Turd! And we unpacked. We were excited to have use of a full kitchen and I set to making dinner right away. Dinner just isn’t a chore to me. I absolutely love to cook, so it felt good to be on vacation and relaxing in this way. Weird, I know!

We stayed in for the evening. The cabins are way off the beaten track so it was incredibly peaceful. We attempted to light a fire but failed miserably, so we lit some candles and pretended. :oD Dinner was a delicious variety of our favorite foods. We then sat down to… wait for it… READ! Uninterrupted reading happened! It was crazy. Ha!

After awhile neither one of us could stand to wait any longer. We had to check out the hot tub! The walk over there was a little intimidating, in the dark and chill, but once we arrived we were in heaven. The spa was very large. I think it could have easily fit 10 people. It was practically a pool. Even though it was October, it was perfect. The hot tub was housed in an enclosed gazebo with a fan and vents at the top in case it got too hot.

We spent a good amount of time just sitting quietly. One major thing I value about my friendship with my bestie is that nothing has to be said. Soon enough, we were a tad overheated and perhaps a bit tired. We decided to turn in for a movie and some sleep.

We piled onto the super neat futon and watched a movie until we couldn’t hold our eyes open. And then…

A bed all to myself. *Angels singing, birds chirping, harp music*

We both had an excellent night of sleep and woke up to a homemade breakfast basket. This was, after all, a bed and breakfast. The basket was delivered to our porch and included several juices and a variety of breakfast foods.

Today we had adventures planned in Ithaca such as seeing Cascadilla Falls and spending time in the Commons. And, of course, some winery touring. We ate at a leisurely pace and wrapped up our leftovers for later. We then made the 30 minute drive south to Ithaca.

The rest of the day and evening went much like the last. We ate most meals at the cabin to be thrifty and we enjoyed more peaceful reading. We ended our trip with a hug and parted ways until next time. I drove home feeling so refreshed and so loved.

And that, dear reader, is what the ‘Ladies Weekend’ is all about! Refreshment, relaxation, renewal! I make it a point to have at least two ladies weekends each year and I am trying to work in even more. This focus on the self is so very important to your health.

So, what are you waiting for? Get booking a trip for just you and the gals!
